Boom, DPF light. Thanks pumpe duse. So now it’s time to take Skodapants on a 45 minute blast to get the exhaust up to over 600°C and burn off all those naughty particulates. Any one care for a GoPro video of one of the best driving roads in the North East of England? No shitty music, I promise.

Yup. I wanted the common rail to avoid this situation, the DPF on the PD is a total afterthought. Unfortunately the car was advertised as a CR by a dealership, but was in fact the PD. I like the car though, and rejected monetary compensation in favour of a 12 month (24 month total) warranty extension specifically on the exhaust, DPF and turbo system.

What driving road will you be screeching along? I rather liked the A-road along Hadrian’s and it would be perfect for something gutless like a Spridget, but I have no idea what would be good for wringing out a Czech-German diesel.

I like how I could instantly tell this was a VAG product by that center display.

Hell, even the Gallardo had it.

Would it, though? Are particulates tested? I had the idea it was just HC and CO but maybe diesels differ.

B6320, aka the military road. The further North you get, the better the drive. It just improves and improves and improves until you hit Edinburgh.

Particulates and g/km CO2 on diesels, and only the latter for petrol engines.

Very nice. Lots of left/right turns around the river, and I’d assume a good bit of up/down elevation changes.

A lot of crests and dips, corners over burms, but you have to watch out for motorcyclists, they love taking a blind corner just a bit too tight :/

Also a problem on some of the fun roads here - the Blue Ridge Parkway for one. Of course there, it’s fewer cafe racers and Japanese, and more full dress cruisers...

Sports bikes galore on this road, the mountain (read: hill) pass further North into Scotland is an absolute favourite for them.

Re: mountains vs hills, it was some time after I’d gotten back that it finally filtered through to me: “No, actually, there weren’t any real mountains on the trip.” My home town is only 800ft less high above sea level than the highest point in all England. As well, less than 15 miles away as the crow flies is a 6700ft mountain, highest in the eastern US.

That’s not a bad deal at all. My work truck decided it wanted to do a scrubber burn three times on Friday. Stupid truck.

The maual says, ‘1500-2300 rpm until the light goes out’. From what I’ve read on the forums you’re much better off running the car at constant high revs well past the point the light switches off, this is apparently as close to a full burn as you can get. As far as I’m aware on the Skoda, the light going out means the DPF is at lower than 60% particulates, and it stands to reason that the longer you drive it, more of the particulates burn off to hopefully less than 20%. This in theory should give you longer runs in between regens... ?

Would make sense. I’ll make sure I do that next time it acts up. It might just be a pile of junk though. It’s a 20 year old moving truck lol.

This is not surprising. You need Wales for some lovely mountains, and plenty of sheep, if you’re into that sort of thing. Is that the peak that your pa took the old Series II up?

I’m probably wrong in it being 20 years old, it sure as hell drives like one, but its an International box truck.

Could it have had a DPF fitted after the fact? Seems irritating enough for the Canadian government to demand.

Kinja'd!!! 4muddyfeet - bare knuckle with an EZ30 > TheVancen- In Pursuit of a Greater Payday and Car Parts
07/06/2015 at 19:01

Kinja'd!!!0

Yes certainly, but being an International it probably had one fitted as standard if it was born after 2001. Apparently International were the first to put DPF’s on their trucks, on the DT530 engine in 2001. (A quick bit of Google-fu)
